Welcome to the Second Grade! We are excited about the 2007-2008 school year. We hope your child is excited, also. We have posted information that you might find useful this school year. If you have any questions concerning your child, please feel free to contact us. You may schedule a conference or leave a message by calling the office at 903-364-2424.
Second grade conference time is 1:25-2:10 daily. We are available before or after school if this is not convenient for you.
Three week progress reports will be sent out just as they were last year.
Each time a report card comes home, you will need to send back the envelope and the white sheet that acknowledges that you have seen the report card.
Always check in with the office before you go to your child's classroom. This is for all of our safety.
Please have your child at school on time! School starts promptly at 7:55 a.m. The first bell rings at 7:50 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:55 a.m. Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:45. No one will be served breakfast after 7:45. School dismisses at 3:00 p.m.
Regular attendance is a must! Our Math and Phonics is a very rigorous program. It is so very important that your child not miss a day. If your child has to be absent, you must send a note to school explaining the absence. If a child misses more than 17 days, they cannot be promoted to the next grade.
We will have spelling tests on Friday. There will be a list of 20 words that will be sent home each Monday for your child to study.
Homework for second grade will consist of Math and Phonics. You will need to check over your child's homework. Be sure that you are checking your child's gold folder each night. Your child is responsible for bringing his/her folder to school each day.
Your child needs to have a box of crayons and a few pencils at home. Periodically, we will have homework that requires coloring. No work is to be done in ink!
2nd through 5th grade students pay for their lunches as they go through the line. They can pay a day, a week, or a month at a time. As always, there is absolutely no charging for breakfast or lunch.
It will be the responsibility of the parent to leave or pick up any medication at the nurse's office. All medication must be in the original container.
If you would like to furnish treats for your child's birthday, please let us know ahead of time so that we may plan for it in our schedule. We prefer for birthday parties to celebrate at 2:30.
