Thank you for visiting my "About Karen Hodgdon" page. I currently live in Denison, TX with my husband Lindsay and my daughter Kelsey. I completed my B.S and M.S. at Texas A&M University-Commerce. I am also a veteran of the U.S. Army where I was a helicopter mechanic and crew chief. I enjoy hunting and fishing, art and music. My hobbies include a wide variety of projects that touch on the different areas of my life. As an English teacher in the Whitewright ISD, my mission is to give the student the opportunity to enrich their mind, through their own experiences, so that he/she might find moments of meaningful learning in all academic endeavors through the mediums of reading, critical thinking and writing. I am looking forward to a great year with the students!

The English Toolbox
I believe every student needs the following tools of English to have the best experience possible in the academic arena.
Reading
The true value of literacy lies in its uses; therefore, students gain a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when they conquer comprehension of the written word.
Critical Thinking
Thinking is a conversation. It is a dialogue that you have with yourself in your mind. The conversations that take place between readers and texts transcend time and space.
Writing
The writing process is merely thought extended to paper; however, writing effectively to communicate is a conversation between the writer’s thoughts and the reader’s interpretive efforts. Writing proves to continually refine an individual like the rivers of a canyon.
